Our Impact
We’re turning the students of today into the leaders of tomorrow. With digital campaigns, on-campus organizing, and providing the resources to stay informed and engaged - DC College Dems will be an important youth vote power player in the 2024 elections and beyond.
Organizing a Democratic Movement
Over the last year, we expanded to six chapters and grew our presence in DC Politics on both the local and national levels. We’ve expanded our fundraising and developed relationships with legislators in Congress, but there’s so much more to do.
This year, we’re working on raising more money so that we can run effective field operations in the fall. We’re starting our first caucus system to increase representation and diversity within DCCD.
Developing Leadership
College Democrats is not just about engaging on the local or state level but training the next generation of Democratic leaders to govern efficiently, effectively, and, most importantly, fairly. DC College Democrats is dedicated to providing professional development to students of all backgrounds to prepare them to work in politics and advocacy after they graduate.
We’re developing an internship bank and intern chapter for visiting Democrats looking to get involved. We will be hosting speakers—both virtually and in-person—that emphasize professional development and offer advice based on their own experience. We’re organizing advocacy trips and lobbying days so that members of DC College Democrats can have hands-on experience engaging with elected officials and political opinion-makers.
Engaging Our Peers
Youth turnout is essential to Democratic victories in 2024 and beyond and starts on college campuses. It starts by engaging our peers through on-campus events like voter registration drives, social events, and phonebanks. It builds to canvasses and an integrated set of chapters all actively working towards electing Democrats.
As part of our 2022 push, these efforts to engage our peers across DC and the whole country are heightened. We are committed to holding frequent phonebanks and canvasses, overnight trips to nearby swing states, and working with campaigns not just in the DMV but across the country that are crucial for a Democratic Majority in Congress and the Electoral College.
